Circle Launches Arc Public Mainnet
Circle says its institution-oriented Layer 1 is live with USDC-denominated fees, a permissioned validator set and more than 100 applications. Availability is confirmed by the launch announcement; operating performance remains an open test.
Circle announced the public mainnet launch of Arc on September 16, moving the network from private testing into public operation.
The company says fees are paid in USDC and transactions receive deterministic sub-second finality. Arc launches with a permissioned validator set drawn from financial and payment institutions, while a future transition toward proof of stake remains on the roadmap.
A large launch roster is not the same as durable usage
Circle lists more than 100 applications and more than 100 institutional and ecosystem builders across banking, asset management, payments, exchanges, custody, DeFi, wallets and infrastructure.
That breadth can accelerate distribution, but a launch roster does not show how much activity is in production, how concentrated validator authority is or how the network performs under stress.
The operating tests begin now
The next evidence should come from verifiable network uptime, transaction finality, fee behavior, validator participation and incident reporting. Sustained application usage will matter more than day-one participation counts.
Circle also says opt-in privacy is still in development for network-wide release. That distinction matters: a roadmap feature should not be treated as universally available.
