Polish Prosecutors Charge Fifth Zondacrypto Suspect

Polish prosecutors have charged a fifth publicly identified suspect in the investigation into Zondacrypto, expanding a case that authorities say involves at least PLN 350 million in estimated losses.

The National Prosecutor's Office said Roman Ż., detained on September 5, faces allegations of participating in an organized criminal group and misappropriating PLN 7.8 million belonging to exchange users. Prosecutors also allege that members of the group changed, deleted or added computer records without authorization to obtain financial benefits.

Roman Ż. pleaded not guilty and provided explanations, according to the prosecutor's office. Prosecutors have requested pre-trial detention, citing the potential penalty, risk of obstruction and flight risk. These are allegations; no conviction has been reported.

The arrest follows charges against four other publicly identified people. Authorities said in June that more than 3,600 crime reports had been registered, while evidence collection and international coordination continued.
