U.S. Bank says it completed a live cross-border payment pilot using USBDC, its proprietary dollar-backed digital currency, between bank entities in North America and Europe.

The transaction ran on Stellar. The pilot tested minting, payment, redemption, freezing and clawback functions while connecting the token workflow with the bank's core finance, risk, compliance and operations systems.

That makes the test operationally more significant than a laboratory transfer. It shows how a regulated bank can evaluate blockchain settlement while retaining controls expected in conventional financial infrastructure.

The boundary is equally important. U.S. Bank described a pilot and said future applications remain under exploration. It did not announce a general customer product, a public stablecoin launch or production-scale cross-border service.

The next evidence threshold is external use: named customer availability, repeat transaction volume and a clearly defined redemption framework beyond transfers between the bank's own entities.
