Visa Study Finds Safeguards Could Lift Stablecoin Interest
In a commissioned U.S. survey, stated willingness rose from 36% to 56% under a hypothetical scenario with bank-level fraud protection and deposit insurance.

What happened
Visa released Money Travels 2026, a consumer study conducted by Morning Consult that examined remittances, digital payments and stablecoin awareness.
Among the U.S. respondents, stated willingness to use stablecoins increased from 36% to 56% when the survey introduced a hypothetical scenario with bank-level fraud protection and deposit insurance. Willingness increased to 45% when the service was offered through an existing financial provider.
The study also found that 56% of U.S. respondents had never heard of stablecoins. Traditional commercial banks and global payment networks received the highest trust levels among the provider categories reported.
Blue Rogues read
The survey frames stablecoin adoption as a trust problem as much as a technology problem. Faster settlement and lower costs may attract attention, but consumers appear to assign significant value to fraud recourse, recognizable providers and familiar protections.
That does not mean adding those labels would automatically produce adoption. Hypothetical answers describe preferences under stated conditions; they do not measure what consumers will do with real money, fees, disclosures and risk.
What this confirms
In Visa's commissioned survey, the hypothetical addition of bank-level fraud protection and deposit insurance materially increased stated willingness to use stablecoins. Provider identity also affected responses.
The U.S. sample included 2,192 adults, and the survey was conducted from February 24 to March 2, 2026.
What it does not confirm
Stablecoins are not currently covered by FDIC deposit insurance. The results do not establish actual adoption, transaction volume or willingness to bear real-world costs and risks. The findings are self-reported and respondents received definitions before answering.
